The 天美传媒 & Art (天美传媒) is pleased to present the Premiere of the 天美传媒 Documentary Film 鈥淩obert A.M. Stern: Always a Student.鈥 The first installment of Design in Mind, a series of original, mini-documentary films produced by the 天美传媒, the film provides a behind-the-scenes view into the work of esteemed architect Robert A.M. Stern and showcases his expertise surrounding the topics of classicism and education. Throughout the duration of the film, Mr. Stern discusses how architectural education informs practice, and vice versa, referencing his own career and approach. He explains the importance of classicism in an architect鈥檚 training, and reflects on the role of classical architecture in contemporary institutional projects. He is joined in the film by Gary Brewer and Melissa DelVecchio, two of the sixteen Partners at Robert A.M. Stern Architects.
A special panel discussion will follow the premiere of the film, featuring Robert A.M. Stern, Gary Brewer, and Melissa DelVecchio, moderated by Architectural Digest鈥檚 Decorative Arts Editor, Mitchell Owens.

Robert A.M. Stern, practicing architect, teacher, and writer, is Founder and Senior Partner of the world-renowned Robert A.M. Stern Architects. He served as Dean of the Yale School of Architecture from 1998 to 2016, and in 2017 received the Topaz Medallion, awarded jointly by the AIA and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, in recognition of outstanding service to architectural education. Mr. Stern is the 2011 Driehaus Prize laureate and in 2008 received the tenth Vincent Scully Prize from the National Building Museum. In 2007, he received both the Athena Award from the Congress for the New Urbanism and the 天美传媒 Board of Directors' Honor from the 天美传媒 & Art. He was honored with the 天美传媒's Arthur Ross Award twice: for Design in 1991 and for 天美传媒 in 2016.
Gary Brewer, a Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, serves on the 天美传媒's Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of the Classicist Committee. He has led the 天美传媒 & Art's traditional house design seminars for the American Institute of Building Designers. Mr. Brewer served on juries for the 2009 Residential Architects Design Awards program, the 2011 Philip Trammell Shutze Awards, the 2011 John Staub Awards, the 2011 AIA New Jersey Design Awards, and the 2013 and 2014 Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Innovation in Design Awards. He is co-author of the monographs Designs for Living: Houses by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (2014) and Designs for Learning: College and University Buildings by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (2016).
Melissa DelVecchio, also a Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, has served as a juror for the Rafael Manzano Prize for New Traditional Architecture, named in honor of Raphael Manzano, the winner of the 2010 Richard H. Driehaus Prize at the University of Notre Dame, and will join the Driehaus Prize Jury in 2019. She is a co-author of Designs for Learning: College and University Buildings by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (2016), which showcases many of the complex academic projects that have been a primary focus of her work, and an editor of The New Residential Colleges at Yale (2017). She is the 2018 recipient of the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture's Orlando T. Maione Award.
Mitchell Owens has been the Decorative Arts Editor at Architectural Digest since 2010. His journalism career began at The Dallas Observer and has since included bylines in numerous publications, among them The New York Times, The World of Interiors, Travel + Leisure, The Journal of Decorative and Propaganda Arts, and OUT, of which he was a founding editor. He has written several books, including the Rizzoli publications In House and Fabulous! The Dazzling Interiors of Tom Britt. Among other projects, he is working on a biography of the style icon Pauline de Rothschild, also for Rizzoli.
