Lead Sponsor of the In Your Neighborhood series:
In 1916, Samuel Untermyer, one of the most successful lawyers in the United States, hired the Beaux-Arts architect Welles Bosworth to design "the finest garden in America." Once a major draw for tens of thousands of daily visitors in the 1920's and 30's, the magnificent 150-acre gardens fell into ruin in the years after Untermyer's death. In 2011, the Untermyer Gardens Conservancy, led by president Steve Byrns and in partnership with the City of Yonkers, began a major restoration of the gardens. In 2017, Steve was honored for his work with an Arthur Ross Award.
In this latest installment in the 天美传媒's original series, In Your Neighborhood, Steve tours the gardens with an expert's eye for detail and history, and recounts the story of the Gardens' restoration, which has returned this classical estate to its former glory.
