In the new book, ROWDY MEADOW: House – Land – Art, Peter Pennoyer presents a visionary house designed and decorated by Peter Pennoyer Architects in Hunting Valley, Ohio, that will ultimately be bequeathed to the Cleveland Museum of Art. Inspired by Czech Cubism – an ephemeral early twentieth century movement notable for its exploration of prismatic forms – it is a house of tremendous complexity ruled by a calm mastery of the language of this style.
In this installment of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Book Club, Pennoyer offers an in-depth look at making of this ambitious house and property as he explores the complex relationships between its architecture, interior design, furnishings, and collections of decorative and contemporary art. Sharing four-season photography of the entire project, along with evocative architectural drawings, he addresses the challenges and rewards of designing a house that, room by room, engages with an extraordinary collection of twentieth-century furniture and decorative arts, and a significant contemporary art collection. He also shows how the house relates to the surrounding Reed Hilderbrand-designed sculpture park, which features works by Richard Serra, Sol LeWitt, Ai Weiwei, Anish Kapoor, Andy Goldsworthy, and others.
